I am a Professor in Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing and the Associate Dean of Research at WMG, University of Warwick (UK). My research leverages data-driven decision making to address industrial decarbonisation challenges, primarily through life cycle assessment (LCA) and techno-economic analysis (TEA), integrated with multi-criteria decision aiding (MCDA).My current projects include the Innovate UK-funded HydroPRT project, part of the Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging challenge, which explores the LCA of hydrothermal upgrading for chemical recycling of polymers. Additionally, I am working on chemometric identification and sorting of mixed waste polymers and upgrading post-consumer recycled plastic.I also lead research on whole life carbon accounting and apply circular economy principles to decision making, which includes work looking at the impact of net zero decision making within health care settings. My investigations into the environmental impact of electric vehicles focus on both the environment and the critical raw materials supply chain. Previously, I led studies on the environmental footprint of lithium-ion batteries through the AMPLiFII2 and MineBIT projects, as well as an EngD studentship via the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Sustainable Materials and Manufacturing, where I serve as Deputy Director (Warwick).Within the CDT, I have spearheaded research on hydrogen generation from wastewater treatment using microbial electrolysis cells with recycled carbon fibre electrodes. Additionally, my work includes ammonia recovery from wastewater and the application of recycled carbon fibres in thermoplastic and thermoset resins, including bio-based epoxy resins from waste cooking oil for energy absorption structures.As the Deputy Director of Research Degrees at WMG, I oversee postgraduate research, ensuring academic progression and providing tailored training in research methodologies, ethics, and thesis writing.
