Graduate Engineer
I completed a two year Engineering Graduate training scheme that aims to provide me with the technical and leadership skills to secure a permanent post in Engineering upon completion of the scheme. I have proven myself and gained experience in the following areas: Operational Maintenance - I was part of a mechanical team working shifts in the casualty hangars of British Airways Engineering. This involved completing repairs, component removal and replacement, engine test runs as well as daily, weekly and monthly checks. I gained a technical understanding of Boeing 757, 767, 777 and 747 aircraft in addition to the Airbus A320 family.Quality Services - As a group of four graduates I contributed to developing the safety management system for British Airways Engineering known as the Engineering Safety Plan. I worked with the CAA as well as most areas of engineering to produce achievable actions that mitigate the effects and reduce the occurrence of safety events in Engineering.Programme Management - I worked with the programme managers responsible for the successful delivery of the Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 to the BA fleet next year. I also contributed to the governance structure that is being used when managing projects and gained skills in project and stakeholder management.Heavy Maintenance - As a member of the technical team based at British Airways Maintenance Glasgow I was responsible for developing structural repairs for Boeing 737-400 and Airbus A319/320/321 aircraft. This involved liaising with aircraft and component manufacturers and collaborating to deliver efficient and effective technical solutions.Environment Team - As part of a shadowing opportunity, I attended the European Advanced Biofuels Flightpath Conference at the European Union Brussels in December 2011 and produced a presentation, report and article on the air transport industry and biofuels in Europe that was published internally.
Mechanical Engineering Industrial Placement Student
I worked for three months as part of an integrated product team working on the LINAPS artillery pointing system designing and developing training equipment for a customer. Initially I did some detailed research of the product and its operation which required a series of meetings with experts on the programme. I was frequently working with people from different disciplines which broadened my own knowledge as well as contributing to their own. It was a great feeling when nearing the end of my project when senior members would seek my opinion on their product. On completion of the project I received very positive feedback from the customer regarding my solution as well as recognition from my supervisor for my contributions to the project.
