SmartSTEMs is a Scottish based charity operating in Scotland and more recently across the UK. I founded SmartSTEMs as a Scottish Charity after it outgrew its original incarnation as the main CSR activity for Seric Systems.Along with a team of highly professional volunteers, some of whom work at Seric, I run SmartSTEMs.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++SmartSTEMs is the glue between Tertiary Education, Industry and Schools. We exist to provide equity of opportunity to young people into STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) with particular focus on underrepresented groups.Our model is SCALABLE and REPLICABLE and DELIVERED through our intertwined initiatives of HUB events and OUTREACHHUB Events are held in tertiary education establishments, by territory, where we convene industry and schools to apply the SmartSTEMs glue and get the good people of Scotland connected and collaborating to best effect. OUTREACH is delivered in Schools & Clubs affording equitable and ongoing access to STEM activities locally. Now also underpinning #insphire we work across the UK and are soon to be delivering in North America.

Young Enterprise Scotland supports young people aged 5-30 across Scotland. We provide training and practical learning experiences to young people of all backgrounds. Beyond the education piece the YES Academy and Bridge2Business programs are having significant impact on the proclivity of young people to make enterprise a life choice.I know both the businesses featured in the videos and great examples they are too. I promote the work of the charity where possible and mentor clients going through the startup phase of their development. I have been doing this since 2005 (see below) and in 2012, The Prince’s Trust Scotland and sister charity, The Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT) merged to become Youth Business Scotland and provide comprehensive support to young people in Scotland.Youth Business Scotland supports young people aged 18 to 30 years old to start-up and grow in business, by providing essential funding and professional mentoring support. Youth Business Scotland gives vital support to young people interested in entrepreneurship.

(Haven't stopped this - just now work with Prince's Trust as the two organisations merged in 2012)Role is to work with and Promote the work of the Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust.The PSYBT, firmly established throughout Scotland in 18 Regions, is responsible for organising pre-start training and aftercare support for young people.Our aim is to provide essential finance and professional support to young people in Scotland aged 18-25, whoever they are and wherever they come from, so that they can set up and run their own businesses.The Trust has particular concern for the disadvantaged. Our volunteers help and mentor young people along the difficult road of starting up in business, but the key is that it must be driven by the desire and ambition of the young people themselves. The PSYBT leads Scotland in the promotion and support of self-employment and business creation amongst young people, thus contributing to the economic development and community regeneration of the country's regions in line with the policy of the Scottish Executive.
