I am a Distinguished University Professor and a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in skeletal muscle health in aging at McMaster University. I have been conducting academic research for over 28 years. I am also the Director of the McMaster Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE), a state-of-the-art facility that provides exercise programs and services for older adults and people with chronic diseases or disabilities.My research focuses on the interactions of nutrition and exercise for optimal muscle function and quality of life in aging populations. I use various methods and techniques, such as stable isotope tracers, muscle biopsies, and histochemistry, to study the mechanisms and outcomes of muscle accretion, atrophy, and sarcopenia. I have published more than 500 peer-reviewed articles, received multiple awards and grants, and delivered hundreds of presentations on these topics. I am also the President and CEO of NutriFitEx Consulting Ltd, a company that offers scientific strategies for product innovation in nutrition and exercise science. I am a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and a key opinion leader in protein science for exercise, weight loss, and aging. My mission is to translate scientific evidence into practical applications for enhancing muscle health and well-being in adults, with a particular focus on healthy aging.
