About Stuart Harrison

Stuart Harrison is an architect, researcher and communicator. He is director of the award-winning practice, Harrison and White, based in Melbourne. He has a focus on re-use of buildings as well as the importance of public buildings and spaces. He is former president of Open House Melbourne, and sits on its board.Stuart Harrison is an active media contributor, and is the former host of Restoration Australia on ABC-TV. He appears on ABC and RRR radio, and writes for Architecture Australia, Houses and other magazines. He has taught extensively and is currently senior lecturer in architectural design at the University of Melbourne. He authored three books on contemporary housing for Thames and Hudson.His architectural practice experience includes educational, commercial and residential work. He was lead architect for the Raptor Rehabilitation Facility at Healesville Sanctuary and on the Parks Victoria Albert Park Office and Depot project, and was architect for key areas of the RMIT New Academic Street (NAS) project in Melbourne. He was design architect for five new buildings for the Victorian Department of Education as part of the Lilydale and Upper Yarra Education Plan. For state governments, he is member on the Victorian Design Review Panel, Western Australian Design Review Panel and South Australian Design Review Panel. For local government he sits on the City of Ballarat and City of Perth design review panels. He has consulted nationally on design-led planning and strategic design. His various practice and media work was exhibited at the 2008, 2010 and 2012 Venice Biennales. He is a Life Fellow with the Australian Institute of Architects.
