Dorset Solar was one of many companies that was started to take advantage of the feed-in-tariff incentive in the UK. I was brought into Dorset Solar to help build the sales and marketing department from scratch. It was hard work at times, and long hours, however it was very enjoyable to build a marketing campaign to stand out in an extremely competitive industry. Although I was asked to continue to grow the marketing within Dorset Solar I had always intended to take some time to travel before settling into a career.

I joined KTSL through Pareto Law after graduating from university. The role involved contacting new and existing customers and talking to them about any projects or initiatives for the future they may be planning for and to pitch any solutions we could offer to help them. The solutions predominantly being offered were industry-leading tools from BMC Software, coupled with ITIL best practices to deliver a rapid and flexible approach to the implementation of Business Service Management, Batch Management and Network Management.

This job was part of the university course I completed and it acted as the third year of the course. It involved me moving to San Diego and fitting into a new work and social environment. I was part of a small team in a large department of the company which was responsible for marketing the different products and participating at different tradeshows and events. I was progressively given more responsibility throughout my time there and became an integral part of the team, eventually becoming a ‘go-to-guy’ for other parts of the department. I used this experience and my contacts in producing my dissertation which looked into the mobilisation of technology and its impact on everyday life.

Meeting essential daily targets whilst staying compliant with the company’s standards and speaking to customers to promote a number of campaigns using different scripts accordingly. I worked closely with many managers in different departments whilst working at Rias. I was given responsibilities beyond my job description helping team members to use new campaigns whilst helping my manager to choose incentives for our team.

I started at Anglian at the age of 16, in the position of a telecommunication canvasser; the majority of the time was spent on the phone. I held a wide variety of roles including recruiting, managing shifts, managing the office, writing scripts and training new employees. All of these responsibilities meant keeping people motivated, disciplined and helping them to reach their targets.
