Purpose: Cell Applications provides primary cell lines isolated directly from human and animal tissue in order to aid medical breakthroughs, cancer research, drug development, and more. Scientists all over the world use Cell Applications’ cells, media, and reagents, including Shinya Yamanaka in his breakthrough Nobel Prize-winning paper on Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells. Cell Culture Technician-Performed Quality Control of all cell lines (listed in the “Skills” section) including inspecting and tracking morphology, purity, plating percentage, population doublings, and doubling times throughout the course of up to fourteen subcultures per cell line-Expanded and harvested cells from myriad tissues into as many as one hundred cryopreserved product vials at once-Procured tissues via dissection, including twice dissecting an entire pig haunch with aseptic technique: removing skin for fibroblasts, skeletal muscle, stripping the bone, scraping cartilage for chondrocytes, and sawing open the femur for bone marrow and osteoblasts-Solely responsible for the isolation of rat cardiomyocytes and shipping flasks and well-plates of still-beating cells-Transfected products including Human Fibroblasts, Bovine Aortic Endothelial Cells, and Rat Brain Microvascular Endothelial Cells to test efficiency for customers-Characterized cells through immunostaining of cell specific markers and/or lineage specific differentiation-Ordered, inventoried, and stocked all supplies for the lab, from tissue culture plates to gloves, negotiated prices, and met with sales reps-Worked with the other lab techs to cover international and domestic shipping during the shipping clerk’s absence

Purpose: CTE is a multifaceted research lab centered around advancing our understanding of stem cell response to substrates, mechanical forces, and chemical factors in order to better develop novel therapies.Undergraduate Researcher-Contributed to the development of a blood vessel model bioreactor to better study multipotent vascular stem cells (MVSCs)-Aimed to replicate physical stimuli and conditions of a blood vessel-Fabricated 100+ test apparatuses with personally machined molds and PDMS silicone polymer-Tested three variables (adhesion, stretch, and flow) over the course of 20+ experiments involving cell culture, sectioning, staining, and ImageJ analysis, followed by analysis of results, troubleshooting, and device modification-Worked both individually and collaboratively in a three person team-Presented findings periodically to lab group of 25 senior researches
