Powered mostly by coffee, I've spent nearly 25 years agency-side, delivering technology and data-driven business strategy and solutions for numerous brands and not-for-profit organisations including Marie Curie, McArthurGlen Designer Outlets, Cosmos, Morrisons, Dogs Trust, Legal & General, ITN and Argos.I've never been too far away from a Content Management or eCommerce implementation and am an expert in technical design and systems integration. More importantly, I have the rare ability to translate complicated technical process into simple, business terms and often find myself bridging the gap between technology teams and the wider business. There's nothing so complicated that I can't explain it with a whiteboard and some coloured pens.I'm a team leader and player, well-versed in Scrum and waterfall project management and a natural, pragmatic, problem solver. When I'm not working I volunteer with the Scouts, try and keep up with my kids, and think of new ways to use yet another Raspberry Pi to automate something...

DirectorDam Digital Sep 2012 - May 2019London, England, GbI helped build Dam into a 20-strong (at its peak) full service digital agency. Responsible for New business and Account Direction as well as Technical Direction and leadership, I created a culture of trust, excellence and responsibility across the company.McArthurGlen – Outlet sitesStarting with nothing more than a few sketches and a colour palette we put a dedicated team together and designed and implemented a multilingual site using the Episerver DXC platform with search, registration and ecommerce capability in just 6 weeks. The project formed the foundation for the entire portfolio of outlet sites and over the following 5 months we rolled it out to the remaining 23 outlets, adding new features and languages as we went.McArthurGlen – Loyalty pilotOriginally engaged to work with a 3rd-party provider to implement the website part of a customer loyalty program at one of the busiest McArthurGlen outlets in Germany, it soon became clear that the project was lacking any technical ownership or data strategy and that the business didn’t have the expertise in-house to translate business requirements into technical strategy. I took on the role of technical architect and digital product owner and we launched in January 2019.Cosmos Tours / Avalon CruisesI led the pitch to build new sites for Cosmos and Avalon in 2017 and took overall responsibility for delivery. Leading a scrum team that included members of the Cosmos development team, we launched the first site within 4 months. Complex bespoke integration with back office Holiday Management/CRM systems and live holiday and flight pricing. Marie Curie – Main website, online shop, community site, fundraising systemsI helped Marie Curie build their digital team following board approval of a digital transformation program and then worked 'in-house' at Marie Curie office for four months prior to the launch of the new website to provide technical direction and leadership while acting as scrum master for the team. -

Technical Director / CtoCandi Jul 2011 - Aug 2012Candi were the UK’s only retail-focused digital agency with clients including Morrisons supermarkets, John Lewis and Which? My role at Candi was split between playing the part of Creative Technologist and Digital Strategist in the Concept Team and being responsible for all aspects of our in-house technical delivery across web, mobile and social. My work in the Concept Team taught me all about multichannel retail and enabled me to research and prototype new ways of engaging consumers throughout their purchase lifecycle. I gained insight into the opportunities and challenges that face enterprise level retail business by engaging at board-level with some of Candi’s largest clients including Morrisons and Kiddicare. I was responsible for building a ‘Multi-channel lounge’ at Candi for clients and staff to discover and demonstrate new consumer technology. The technical team responsibility part of my job was very similar to previous agency roles where I introduced fundamental development and deployment practices and grew my team to a level where they achieved amazing things.I also played an active role on the SEO, UX and Data Analysis working groups at Candi and contributed regularly.Key skills: Digital and Technical Strategy, .NET Development (C#, MVC, WCF etc.), Team City, SVN, Episerver, Umbraco, Facebook development, Project Management, Team Leadership, Concept Development, Rapid Prototyping, New BusinessProudest Achievement: Building and running ‘Meet the chefs’ live chat Facebook application for promotion of new Morrisons ready meal range with celebrity chefs performing live Q&A with members of the public.

Technical & Production DirectorGlobalbeach Group 2008 - Jul 2011I joined Global Beach at the end of 2007 as Technical and Client Services Director with the remit of improving the skills and efficiency of the development team and providing technical expertise to the new business team. The fundamentals of good development practice (automated builds, version control, unit testing) were missing when I joined Global Beach so I put these in place together with a good bug tracking system and collaboration tools. During my 4 years at the agency I rebuilt the development team (using both experienced and junior developers) to a level where I had great confidence in its ability to rise to any challenge and produce outstanding results. I was responsible for bringing ITN Source to Global Beach and was Account Director, Project Manager and Technical Lead on the account throughout my time at the agency. My team and I supported a legacy website based on EpiServer CMS, re-wrote a new eCommerce site with our in-house CMS, integrated with ITN back-office and video production systems and delivered sub-sites for education and live news. Projects underway when I left included architecture of a new back office database to hold details of their 4 million hours of video footage, building a new application to allow newsroom staff to add descriptive metadata to news clips and creating a new B2B site to allow subscribers to stream live news footage worldwide.New business wins at Global Beach in which I was instrumental included Bentley global merchandise shop, Casio UK and PayPal.Key skills: .NET Framework (2.0-4.0), IIS 7, SQL Server, Javascript (jQuery), AJAX, PHP, Cruise Control, Team City, SVN, Project Management, Team Leadership, New BusinessProudest Achievement: Javascript/AJAX based on-page editing system for Autotorq dealer websites. (In the days before jQuery!)
