About Stuart Ward

I fix Agile programs gone awry and build true organizational agility by engineering the organizational operating model around Agile. What Sets Me Apart? Unlike agilists who specialize only in recognized Agile practices, I work at a higher level. I use the leading thinking in organizational design to repair and improve your Agile practices. And I create true organizational agility by building it directly into the systems that surround and support your Agile practices, the systems that make up your organization’s operating model. My experience over twenty-five-years in IT has taught me Agile may look simple on paper, but implementing it is not. The problem is Agile, at its core, is about empowerment. It values "Individuals and interactions over processes and tools" (Agile Manifesto). Yet, too many transformations disempower people. I don’t tell people how to do their jobs, and I certainly don’t recommend implementing heavy-weight scaled Agile frameworks that ignore fundamental principles of organizational design. Rather, I apply organizational design principles to fix an organization's structure, budgeting, resource-governance, culture, methods and tools, and metrics and rewards.I don’t add a "secondary operating system" as some scaled Agile frameworks do. I create an entrepreneurial organization in which every group operates as a business within the business, and a dynamic, self-organizing, team formation process that marshals resources from across the organization, while freeing them to reconfigure and adapt to new and changing priorities.Agile works remarkably for software development—its original purpose. However, to achieve true organizational agility, both an organization's Agile programs and the underlying systems that supports them must be optimized and integrated. For more on the systemic obstacles to agility and what to do about them, see my website: TheAgileMechanic.com. And if you would like to discuss your challenges, I contact me.

Listed skills include Technical Writing, Project Management, Software Documentation, Agile Methodologies, and 13 others.
