I founded VoiceLocket out of my own personal experience. My Mom and Dad died the same day in the same room of the same disease, Alzheimer's. So my parents lost their memories years before they died. I took some solace in knowing that years earlier I had captured and preserved my Mom and Dad telling their own wonderful stories in their own words with their own unique voices. I used professional crews I knew well from being a 10x Emmy winner. It breaks my heart when I hear that someone loses their memory and the family has no good recording of their voice. Family members scramble for a voicemail, a snippet of home video, even an old answering machine tape. It's just not the same as a crystal clear recording with an experienced interviewer prompting Gramma or Grampa with very specific questions, questions the family just doesn't know how to ask. I've interviewed 7,000+ people on camera. In addition to 10 Emmys and three Peabody Awards (the Pulitzer Prize of TV), I was awarded a fellowship in journalism to Harvard based in part on my ability to get people to tell their stories with raw honesty when the red light came on. It's a particular talent that I have spent four decades developing. So now as a proud grey-haired man myself, I want to use this talent of capturing and preserving voices for the benefit of other families like mine. I feel VERY strongly that there is no time to waste. One stroke, one bout of dementia, one car wreck and those voices can be lost for all time.
