Paul addresses industry problems using the principals of Product and Process Design, strengthened by business and innovation analytics. He develops and applies advanced systems analysis tools for decision support, increasingly considering digitalization approaches. These tools are used primarily to assess the transformation of the forest products sector to the bioeconomy – at the technology level, the mill level, and the enterprise level. His applied university research program is conducted in close collaboration with industry, and has had impact in advancing the biorefinery strategies of several Canadian and international forestry companies.

The mission of Processys was to execute value-added consulting studies for the forestry sector, building upon on knowledge and experience in the forest and associated industries, and emphasizing systematic Best Available Technology (BAT) assessments for Greenfield mills in South America as well as vintage mills in North America. Processys clients included for example the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and National Geographic.

Paul held roles as Technical Specialist, Project Manager and Business Strategist in the field of engineering consulting to the pulp and paper industry. He has been involved in over 70 projects at mills across North America and around the world. During his consulting career, Paul managed several specialized consulting groups - pursuing technical excellence and seeking a leadership position in this field, with the general objective of continuously building value for the company. He built a team of respected and motivated process specialists during a time of significant industry consolidation. Growth and profitability of his groups exceeded consulting sector norms.

As Company Associate: Ownership position and participation in senior company management, including Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for Beak Consultants Limited, Board of Directors of Beak Pacific Incorporated, and Senior Management Committee for the operations of Beak Consultants Limited.As Profit Center Manager, BEAK Montreal and Toronto offices: Built and managed a team of Process Engineers that specialized in providing integrated environmental services to the pulp & paper industry. Responsible for hiring/firing and meeting profit targets.As Director of Process Engineering: Paul held roles as Technical Specialist, Project Manager and Business Strategist in the field of engineering consulting to the pulp and paper industry, and was involved in over 80 projects at mills across North America and around the world.
