Paul is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal, where he was Chairholder of an NSERC Design Engineering Chair entitled Process Integration in the Pulp & Paper Industry, and more recently, was Scientific Director of the Value Chain Optimization (VCO) Network. Paul is Co-Founder of EnVertis Inc, a consulting company dedicated to assisting forest product companies with their transformation to more profitable business and technology models including the biorefinery. He is also founder and Principal Consultant of Processys Inc, offering multidisciplinary strategic consulting services to the forest products sector related to process and environmental engineering, including Best Available Technology (BAT) analysis.Among his distinctions, Paul is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), a Founding Fellow of the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada (PAPTAC), past President of the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineering (CSChE), and past Vice-Chair of the Canadian Design Engineering Network (CDEN). Paul is a member and past-Chair of PAPIER, the association of Directors at pulp and paper centers in universities across Canada, and past Editor-in-Chief for the PAPTAC flagship publication Journal of Science and Technology for Forest Products and Processes (J-FOR). He is Associate Editor of Chemical Product and Process Modeling (CPPM) and Process Integration and Optimization for Sustainability (PIOS). With colleague Mahmoud El-Halwagi of Texas A&M University, he co-edited the book "Integrated Biorefineries: Design, Analysis, and Optimization", published by Taylor and Francis - CRC Press.Prior to joining Polytechnique, Paul worked in process design consulting as Company Associate and Director of Process Engineering at Beak Consultants Limited, as Partner and Director of Environmental Services at Simons Environmental Group, and as Director of Process and Environmental Engineering at H.A. Simons Limited in Montreal (later AMEC).
