Speech-Language Pathologist
CurrentMy name is Carlos Alvarado and re opened Stuttering Improvement, LLC in August 2021 to exclusively treat people who stutter. I have a Master's Degree in Speech-language Pathology from Florida State University and I have given lectures to undergraduate and graduate students interested in the field of Speech-language Pathology. As a person who struggled significantly with my own speech until 2016, I am aware how difficult daily speaking situations such as using the phone, performing work duties, social gatherings and developing new interpersonal relationships can be because of stuttering. My approach is a patient-directed approach that will meet the needs and goals of each particular patient with the intent of achieving consistent improved fluency in all situations. Depending on the patient, the methods used will target the physiological and/or emotional (subconscious and/or conscious) factors specific to each patient. Everybody stutters differently but there are certain techniques that can be learned that can significantly reduce the intensity and frequency of both the internal sensation(s) indicating stuttering may happen (which often correctly indicate on what word/sound stuttering may occur on) and the actual stuttering moment. One of my goals is to help people who stutter fully accept themselves as people who stutter, without fully accepting that they will always have problems communicating. Additionally, my goal is to have the patient eventually feel prepared to speak comfortably in every situation without requiring my assistance at all.
