I am a partner at Womble Bond Dickinson working primarily on higher education, employment, and litigation matters.My higher education practice involves a broad range of counseling, including advising, drafting policies, conducting compliance reviews and audits, and providing training to higher education institutions on the Clery Act, Title IX, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. I have extensive experience advising and conducting investigations (privileged and non-privileged) for institutions and their boards related to a variety of aspects of their communities, including athletics, admissions, academics, disability services, Greek life, residence life, and freedom of expression and speech. I conduct and oversee discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct investigations, adjudications, and appeals involving students, administrators, faculty, staff, and visitors at numerous colleges and universities. I also serve as a hearing officer for Title IX and other hearings involving allegations of sexual misconduct. My investigation experience also includes conducting internal investigations and defending corporations, individuals, and higher education institutions in investigations conducted by Congress, the Department of Justice, United States attorneys and attorneys general of numerous states, and other state and federal agencies.I also advise higher ed institutions and corporate clients, including franchisors and other businesses, on employment law issues, including terminations, employment and severance agreements, employment-related claims, independent contractors, post-termination covenants against competition, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary and other duties, fraud, tortious interference, and trademark infringement and have successfully argued motions for preliminary injunctive relief in a variety of contexts, and has served as first chair and co-chair in federal and state courts trials on behalf of the firm’s clients.
