Consulted for Seneca Village Archaeological Project in Central Park, New York, NY. Designed and implemented a first-of-its-kind subsurface testing strategy for historic resources sensitivity and geomorphology on the west side of Central Park (between 81st and 86th Streets) to examine preservation potential of Seneca Village occupations dated 1820-1856. Conducted jointly with Dr. Nan Rothschild (Columbia University), Dr. Diana diZerega Wall (City University of New York), Dr. Cynthia Copeland (New-York Historical Society), and Matthew Brown (Central Park Conservancy). Conducted hand auger testing along multiple transects aligned with known areas of village settlement, based on map and other documentary records. Recorded via GPS locator the coordinates for test units and mapped density of artifact recovery against GIS projections creating a site sensitivity model for historic footprint of Seneca Village. Identified in situ horizons of archaeological materials despite intense episodes of historic and modern re-landscaping, including Frederick Law Olmstead's construction of Central Park after 1856. Managed and trained team of 18 professional archaeologists, graduate students, and undergraduates from Columbia University, City University of New York, New-York Historical Society, Rutgers University, and Montclair State University in geomorphological, pedological, and geoarchaeological methods and techniques. Generated a landscape and historic occupation development model for Holocene through 19th century environments, which was used in later ground penetrating radar survey and subsequent test excavation. Invited to return to the team in 2011 to conduct further geoarchaeological testing on open excavation areas and to collect soil samples.

Implemented intensive archaeological site and geoarchaeological landscape survey of 3rd millennium BC human occupations along a 290-mi (470 km) tributary of the greater Indus River Valley culture area associated with the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Harappa in Punjab. Focused on the Beas River drainage, a 7,800 sq mi (20,300 sq km) catchment area encompassing arid and humid zone topographies as it drains from the Himalaya Range. Conducted digital topographic field survey (Total Station), soil and sedimentological profiling and sampling, intensive Bronze Age ceramic sample collection, and off-site landscape survey and description.Generated multimedia reports, topographic and artifact density maps, soil and sedimentological descriptions, and other results from digitized data and remote sensing data collection (aerial photography, map reconnaissance, declassified satellite imaging). Assisted with laboratory artifact processing and analysis. National Science Foundation grant sponsored. Tell Brak, Brak, Northern Syria

Supervised and conducted archaeological excavations and preliminary geoarchaeological evaluations of 3rd millennium BC urban center within the northern Tigris-Euphrates drainage system. Joint expedition of the University of Cambridge (UK) with Dr. Joan Oates and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (NY) with Dr. Geoffrey Emberling.Managed team of 8 local excavators during quadrant excavations of sacred temple oval structure, specifically the area of the mud brick structure associates with beer or wine making. Excavated associated burials and exterior spaces of rare 3rd millennium BC oval structure. Responsible for all documentary recording, artifact collection/recording/processing, soil/sedimentological sampling, and preparation of summary excavation area report. Conducted off-site examination of 1x1x4 meter deep test shafts into floodplain area adjacent to mound ("tell) occupation of ancient Brak in an effort to locate suspected urban center burial deposits/mass graves. Observed detailed stratigraphy, artifact horizons, and soil/sedimentary deposits associated with nearby Khabur River drainage.

Fort Rock Basin, Or

Acted as geoarchaeological research assistant during field excavations of Carlon Village archaeological site in the Fort Rock Basin. Applied geoarchaeological, pedological, and sedimentological methods and techniques to examination of Archaic period (6000-2000 BP) archaeological site on the shores of northern Great Basin pluvial lake system. Supervised by Dr. Melvin Aikens. Examined late Pleistocene and Holocene landscape dynamics within northern Great Basin and transition from glacial to post-glacial environments. Integrated human occupation cultural materials into landscape model developed through geoarchaeological evaluation of site area. Lead author and editor of poster presentation summarizing results of field data collection to the 63rd Annual Meeting of the Society of American Archaeology, Seattle, WA, April 1998.

Castlemerle, Dordogne, France

Conducted archaeological excavation, testing, and artifact analysis of an Aurignacian-aged archaeological cave occupation associated with Neanderthal human groups (older than 35,000 years B.P.). Joint project by New York University (NY) and Le Centre National de la Recheres Scientifique (CNRS, France). Implemented suspended grid excavation techniques in rock shelter site setting. Collected and identified artifacts and tool types from levels older than 20,000 years B.P. Photo-documented and recorded all excavation observations, including soil types, artifacts, features, and other associations.

Mount Vernon, Va

Conducted primary and secondary historic research on design and construction of George Washington's original 16-sided brick threshing barn at Dogue Run, VA, including analysis of construction materials (iron nails, handmade/locally fired bricks, wood superstructure). Processed and analyzed historic artifact catalogue from field excavations associated with off-site excavations to identify in situ remains of barn foundation. Presented results of field excavations and artifact analysis to the Society of Historical Archaeology 1995 Conference on Historical and Underwater Archaeology, Washington, D.C., January 1995.Responsible for post-field processing, cataloguing, and preliminary analysis of artifacts collected during 1994 summer excavation season, including conservation of fragile materials (bone, metal, ceramic), data entry and querying, and other collections management functions. Supervised team of 6 volunteer excavators and research analysts during artifact processing and data analysis.

Supervised team of 8 undergraduate students from metropolitan Washington, D.C., area universities, including hearing-impaired and deaf students from Gallaudet University. Oversaw all excavation, documentation, and recording of excavation areas associated with 18th century historic trash midden (dump) adjacent to George Washington's historic home at Mount Vernon, as well as associated agricultural structures, including the Dung Repository and the Dogue Run 16-sided barn. Managed off-site excavation team to locate and identify remains of original 18th century threshing barn (situated within modern residential neighborhood). Conducted field survey and shovel testing procedure across several acres to map artifact densities. Analyzed artifact collection from shovel test units to produce a site sensitivity model and identify footprint of original foundation.

Designed and implemented a comprehensive site sensitivity and survey project to assess historic resources on 300-acre university parcel (College Woods) as part of undergraduate senior thesis. Developed landscape and site sensitivity model for resource panning model by the College of William & Mary in compliance with Section 106 requirements and standards. Managed and trained a team of 5 archaeologists in completing shovel test pit survey of high sensitivity landforms within the parcel, collecting artifacts, completing field descriptions, and recording through drawing and photography.
