I am a principal at Workomics, where we help biotechs and start-ups achieve their business goals. I contribute to projects from the perspectives of go-to-market strategy, operational effectiveness, human-centred design, and strategic communications. I treasure my colleagues and my clients, and feel fortunate to be able to work with them every day. I write a monthly Substack newsletter, where I explore the future of work. Through the newsletter, I explore how we make work and workplaces better for people — customer-centric, inclusive and equitable, focused on employee well-being, meaningfully integrated with emerging technology. In the past, I have been a Rhodes Scholar, a CEO, and a licensed propane dispenser, only one of which involved an objective assessment of my abilities. I love to solve specific, pragmatic problems by drawing on a variety of disciplines and traditions — my university degrees span English literature, software design, philosophy, politics, and economics, and computer science. At different points in my career, I have devoted myself to: — Communicating complex medical concepts to patients. — Architecting the data, software, technology, and IT governance structures of large enterprises. — Embedding human-centred design capabilities to enable customer experience. — Applying machine learning techniques to natural language problems.Outside of work, I am trying to raise two kind, fair-minded boys who are able to chart their own path to happiness and pick up their @%&*!# socks. In our shared parenting adventure, my husband is my hope and stay. In whatever spare time remains, I am a curling enthusiast, a fastidious baker, and a member of the World's Most Organized Book Club. I am an acolyte of David Allen, Brené Brown, and Michael J. Sandel, which is to say I value efficiency, vulnerability, and justice, in workplaces and in life. I feel socially inept at cocktail parties, but love to get to know someone over a meal. I relish epic adventures to new places, as long as they are interspersed with quiet time at home. I have lived in Newfoundland, New Brunswick, England, Alberta, and now downtown Toronto. I love busy cities, big prairie skies, and dreaming spires, but the ocean brings me peace. Whatever my foibles and failings, when all is said and done, I hope it can be truly said that I was generous and kind.
