Subrata De was initiated in the art of playing Hindustani Classical Music - Sitar at the tender age of seven under the guidance of Shri Amarjeet Singh of Jamshedpur and later on obtained training from Suramani Bauri Bandhu Sethi of Bhubaneswar, Orissa from where he has imbibed the essential elements of Sitar with great devotion and after 10 years he placed himself in the hands of Sitar Maestro Pandit Manilal Nag of Calcutta of Vishnupur Gharana, with strict discipline and sincerity ,to learn extensively the Dhrupad and Vadan Style(Gayaki), Tankari, Alapang, Gatkari etc. of Vishnupur Gharana and now has become an accomplished sitar player .His Father Shri Bhutnath De is also an eminent vocalist of Hindustani Classical Music. God's blessing and it may sound incredible, he has always kept his head bowed. Indian music is an ocean, and he thinks he is tinier than a drop. He realises that he exists because of the subject. Subrata has been a cultural ambassador to many countries and is a panellist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Festival of India Cell, Zonal Cultural Centres and Graded artist of AIR, Subrata founded Swaranjali in 2000, an organisation dedicated to promotion of the arts and artists. He also has various albums to his credit. Meditation, Ganga, and Panchatatwa are among his known compositions. Created few new Raagas like Lata, Ataal, Shikhashree, Jogiya Ranjani , Jawahar, BhupMalap, Subhash.He has also released several audio albums from – GANGA, SARANG, SHRUTI, SWARANJALI, WATER IN FURY, UNIVERSE IN YOU, Meditation De La INDIA , INSEARCH,Lotus,...Subrata has given numerous performances in various International & major festivals all over India and morethen 40 countries in abroad.As a solo artist and accompanist, he has dedicated himself to create and extend an environment of Indian classical music in rural areas of India as well as abroad by collaborating with leading organizations and eminent dancers, both on a national and international level. More recently, he has been involved in multiple projects like “Flamenco India” with famous filmmaker Carlo Saura of Spain, a musical collaboration with Martinique Jazz musicians, World aquatics fusion group project and others.
