As a researcher tasked with developing small-molecule inhibitors against DnaE1, my responsibilities included conducting extensive research to identify potential inhibitors, as well as designing and executing biochemical assays and high throughput screening to validate their efficacy. I also had to carry out protein expression, purification, and characterization to ensure that the inhibitors were compatible with the protein target. Finally, I utilized cryo-electron microscopy to solve protein-ligand structures, providing valuable insights into the mechanism of inhibition.

During my time as a doctoral researcher from September 2015 to September 2020 and as a postdoctoral researcher from October 2020 to February 2021, I worked on several important projects. One of my primary responsibilities was to develop small molecule inhibitors for specific mono-PARPs, which involved conducting extensive research, protein expression, purification, and characterization. I also utilized X-ray crystallography and SAXS to solve protein structures, providing valuable information about the mechanism of inhibition. In addition, I was involved in teaching lab courses for the bachelor degree program provided by the University of Oulu, where I co-supervised a Master's thesis and regularly taught Master orientation students. This experience allowed me to develop my teaching and communication skills, as well as to gain valuable experience in mentoring and supervising others.

India

During my time as a project assistant from July 2014 to May 2015, I worked on a project focused on the phylogeographic studies of Nyctibatrachus, an endemic frog genus from the Western Ghats. My primary responsibilities included conducting molecular work involving PCR and sequencing, as well as performing bioinformatic analysis to interpret the data obtained. This required a significant amount of technical expertise and attention to detail, as well as a strong understanding of the principles of molecular biology and bioinformatics. Through this project, I gained valuable experience in the field of evolutionary biology and contributed to the understanding of the biogeography of this important group of amphibians.

Structure-based drug discovery - As a technical trainee from October 2013 to May 2014, I had the opportunity to work on several important projects. One of my primary responsibilities was conducting crystallization experiments and data collection, processing and solving ligand-bound complex protein structures. This required a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail, as well as a strong understanding of the principles of protein biochemistry and crystallography. In addition, I was responsible for training undergraduate students in their dissertation projects, which involved setting up protein crystallization, data collection, analysis, and structure solution. This experience allowed me to develop my teaching and communication skills, as well as to gain valuable experience in mentoring and supervising others.

As part of my Master's thesis under the guidance of Prof. M.R.N Murthy at the Indian Institute of Science, India, I conducted structural studies of Adenylosuccinate Lyase from Salmonella typhimurium. The primary objective of the study was to examine the enzyme as a potential drug target. To accomplish this, I performed various bioinformatics analyses, including protein interface studies, comparing intra-protein interactions, and comparing AMP binding between salmonella ASL and E.coli ASL and phylogenetic reconstruction. Additionally, I conducted co-crystallization experiments by overexpressing, purifying, and setting up crystallization with substrates like SAMP, AMP, and fumarate. This experience provided me with a deep understanding of the principles of protein biochemistry, crystallography, and drug discovery, which will be invaluable in my future research endeavors.
