"It is never too late to expand the mind of a person on the autism spectrum." is a quote from an inspiring woman with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dr Temple Grandin, whom I have had the privilege of meeting. Sharing this belief, I have a deep interest in childhood interventions to provide children and their families with the best opportunities for quality of life and I enjoy inspiring children to learn.With a research background and a master's degree in psychology my journey has led me to special educational needs and in particular Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). I have spent many years developing an understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders and supporting a child with an ASD for 7 years, attending multiple conferences and completing a post graduate diploma in Autism (special education). This was extended to supporting children across the school with a range of difficulties and advising staff from other schools. I qualified as a teacher and I taught in the UK in mainstream schools and in South Africa in a school specialising in special educational needs. I have worked with gifted children and children with Dyslexia, ADHD, ADD, Downs Syndrome, Hirschsprung’s disease, attachment disorders, emotional and behavioural difficulties, Cerebral Palsy, mild learning difficulties, Nystagmus, partial sightedness and Autism Spectrum Disorders.
