As an ED nurse at IU Health Arnett in Lafayette, IN, my responsibilities are to triage and assess each patient that presents themselves for care. Along with the other staff members, we professionally and efficienlty care for and treat the ill and injured in Trauma, Cardiac, Med/Surg, and Pediatrics. Each new day at work is an adventure!

The ED responsibilties are the same as at IU Health. Renal/Oncology was a unit designed to care for patients with acute and chronic kidney failure and other issues, often requiring hemo and peritoneal dialysis. The other aspect of the unit is for those cancer patients usually requiring inpatient chemo and/or further testing of their condition.As a case manager, my role was to act as a coordinator among the patient, physician, insurance companies, durable medical supply companies and outpatient home and long term care facilities.

Children at school have a mulititude of health care needs. In some cases it can be the administration of medications, short and long term, administering nebulizer breathing treatments, treating injuries on the playground, gym or from horse play. School children have seizure disorders, diabetes, asthma, ADHD and just about any condition adults can have. The school nurse is the first person they see when acute conditions arise and need to be triaged for further care.

This was a newly created position and I wore many hats. My responsiblities included not only arranging adequate medical care for industrial related injures, workers compensation insurance reports, OSHA compliance, but also MSDS training, arranging for the proper disposal of hazardous manufacturing by-products, Safety Program development and employee health programs.

Managed a newly opened 5 bed critical care. Responsible for the development of policy and procedures, equipment selection, education and staffing.

As a nurse in the ICU I cared for any acutely ill patient that needed to be closesly monitored. They included cardiac patients, GI Bleeds, extensive surgical patients, trauma, strokes, kidney failure, etc.
