Liaison for Polio Eradication activities to the World Health Organization Headquarters and country programs world-wide including Pakistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, countries of the Horn of Africa, and other outbreak countries. Windhoek, Khomas, Namibia

Ensured CDC Namibia provided scientific and innovative technical support for Namibia’s HIV, TB, and laboratory program to meet its goal of decreasing new HIV and TB infections, HIV related deaths, and provide appropriate care and treatment for cases of TB and HIV. Established and maintained effective and positive working relationships with government officials, national and international development partners, donor agencies, and local non-governmental agencies. Liaised with US Mission on safety and security, and related finances.

Atlanta, Georgia

Led team of 20 senior medical officers, field epidemiologists, senior service fellows, and public health advisors – this team provided programmatic and technical assistance to 42 countries of the African region of the World Health Organization with focus on diseases of elimination and eradication such ase - polio eradication, measles mortality reduction, neonatal tetanus elimination, routine immunization, and integrated disease surveillance and response and operational research.

East Africa And Nigeria

Secondment from CDC to World Health Organization (WHO) in East Africa (5 years) and Nigeria (3 years). Served as team leader and provided technical assistance related to all areas of an expanded program on Immunization, with emphasis on Polio eradication and measles control. Accountable for planning, implementation, and evaluation of supplemental immunization programs. Provided in-country assistance with plans of action and budget development.

This included direct and/or programmatic supervision of approximately 195 employees and budget management of approximately $12M. Responsible for working with Medical Officer, Area Manager, clinic supervisors, clinic staff, and community-based organizations to improve STD awareness and program effectiveness. Design and implement community outreach activities. Oversee county STD surveillance system. Provide training for newly assigned Public Health Investigators (PHI) in all aspects of the STD program, including clinic operations, field investigation, and case assessment/management. Conduct activity audits and assist staff to identify and resolve problems. Prepare monthly and quarterly reports. Combatting Communicable Childhood Diseases funded by USAID, CDC and WHO to decrease maternal and child mortality and increase child health. Worked with national counterpart to establish sustainable health services in Bassa County. This included expanding static and outreach immunization services, providing oral rehydration therapy, establishing a revolving drug fund at several sites.
