From humble beginnings in Van Buren, AR to state-of-the-art detailing and fabrication, the company continues to meet the demands of venues from t-ball to auto racing. Now 3rd generation, this family-owned business began in 1946 and is continuing to grow year by year. I have had the privilege of starting my employment with Southern Bleacher back in 1984, with myself and one bookkeeper being support staff to a handful of fellas in the office and a welding shop. Shortly thereafter, the founder’s daughter stepped into marketing when her boys were both old enough for school, and I assisted in building the marketing database from athletic directory books, state-by-state. Through the years, we’ve watched families grow, our founder’s daughter take the reins, venues expand, young boys grow into men and step into leadership roles, and the 4th generation now being raised in their formative years. Yes, those boys have become my bosses, and now have families of their own. We’ve outgrown our facilities more than once during my tenure here, and we will continue to meet or exceed the standards of the industry. Fielding over a million calls over four decades has its rewards. There is an array of voices, each unique to their own locale, some displaced, some marked by years of wear and some are just downright funny. Is the customer always right? Not really, but even when they’ve dialed the incorrect number and argue that they didn’t, I try to leave them with a kind word and better direction than when we first said, “Hello.”
