The Hardy Plant Society is a national charity promoting hardy herbaceous plants. County Groups organise monthly events with speakers of a very high standard. I am working freelance and enjoying myself getting involved in many projects to promote the green environment.

I have stood down as Co-ordinator to concentrate on other tree-related projects in the Midlands, but I look forward to continuing to contribute to the group and help it grow its network and influence.

My new freelance role is to develop TDAG in the Midlands, drawing on the expertise and network of the national TDAG group based in London. I will be enabling our bi-monthly meetings, reinforcing and widening our networks of tree professionals and liaising with Midlands' professional Institutes and Universities to identify and promote good practice.

After 16 years, we all retired from Birmingham Trees for Life, having planted 100,000 trees in Birmingham’s parks. The initiative to promote trees and tree planting in the City has been passed into Birmingham Tree People. I am helping them at this time of transition.

Midlands

I am a member of the Midlands Branch of the Trees and Design Action Group. TDAG brings together a group of individuals, professionals and organisations from wide ranging disciplines in both the public and private sectors to increase awareness of the role of trees in the built environment. I am creating a series of Tree Walk Leaflets for the parks of Birmingham showing the trees to be discovered along a trail. Each leaflet includes a map, a brief description of the significant trees and specially taken photographs.

In July 2006, Cllr Hassall, Geoff Cole and I set up BTFL as a partnership between the City Council, the Civic Society and local business to generate income for the planting of trees in parks. Between 2006 and 2022 we planted 100,000 trees in parks, most with the involvement of schoolchildren.

Working in the Overview and Scrutiny Team on a wide range of environment projects. Work involved research, writing review reports summarising research and evidence and making recommendations for change. I worked closely with Members, managing the Committee and giving advice to the Committee Chair. The process was similar to a Select Committee. I.
