Following a meeting with my accountant in 2008 I decided I needed to understand what on Earth he was talking about next time we met. He talked about depreciation, capital allowances and prepayments along with a host of other things that I didn’t understand. What I did understand is that when I walked in I thought I’d made a healthy profit and by the time he’d finished it had diminished considerably. What he’d done is the end of years accounts and I had no idea how or why!I set off on a program of study to become a bookkeeper so that I could help run the business better.
