I have 35 years’ professional experience in noise and vibration, mostly in the investigation and prevention of occupational exposures associated with ill health. My HSE research experience includes carrying out scientific investigations involving all aspects of measurement and assessment of hand-arm vibration and noise exposure. As a research leader both for HSE and external clients, I was responsible for research project design, implementation and management, interpretation of results and production of reports, as well as disseminating the findings through publications and presentations at conferences. I also regularly delivered HSE training courses on hand-arm vibration. From 2019 in a consultancy role at Finch Consulting, I prepared expert evidence for the Courts in personal injury claims for both hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) and noise induced hearing loss (NIHL). I also provided help and advice to employers on the management of hand-arm vibration. In July 2022 I returned to HSE as a specialist inspector.
