Analysis of contract monitoring information from providers, seeking to provide assurance that specialised activity has been appropriately identified using the specialised commissioning identification rules. The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Nhs Foundation Trust, Wirral

NATCANSAT is a national team with a range of clients including NHS England, the Department of Health, the National Cancer Action Team, cancer networks, NICE, CCGs and Trusts. I am responsible for processing and cleaning extracts of large national healthcare data including Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) and Radiotherapy Dataset (RTDS). I have linked and manipulated the HES data to provide innovative pathway analysis and have linked multiple datasets such as HES, RTDS, Cancer Registry data and ONS mortality data for outcome and research purposes such as the burden and cost of ongoing treatment of those surviving cancer. I have used my knowledge of HRGs to analyse their use in HES data and to translate activity data into quantifiable benefits in financial terms.I have extensive understanding and experience of Microsoft products including Access, Excel, SQL Server and SSIS and use them on a daily basis to clean, interrogate, manipulate and analyse data. I use SSAS to produce online OLAP cubes and Excel to produce offline OLAP cubes and consider that I have expert knowledge of Excel and Access. My work involves routine use of statistics such as mean, median, interquartile range, pie charts, bar charts, histograms, rates per million population, percentages, Box and Whiskers Plots and STP Charts.I work well with my colleagues and as a member of the small team, I am able to adapt my approach and work flexibly to achieve our objectives. As some of the team are office-based and others are home-based, effective communication has been essential. I often work on a section of a project alone, unsupervised and then liaise with another team member to produce the final output.

Birchwood, Warrington

My role involved undertaking clinical audits of case notes across a range of GP surgeries throughout the North West. I analysed the results, compiled a report and presented the findings directly to the clinical teams within Practices. This included the identification of areas for improvement, sharing best practice and presenting recommendations.

In this newly established post, I was responsible for the design and implementation of a bespoke database for the Breast Assessment Unit to monitor its activity. This was an Access database linked via ODBC to the Trust’s SQL servers. The data was used for routine reporting of performance against KPIs including waiting times and attendances. The analysis was presented, reviewed and monitored at the monthly departmental meetings. In addition, the data supported audit and research and contributed towards publications.

Wirral

This was a split role with half of my time spent as a clinical auditor in one large general practice surgery and the other half spent working for the MAAG on their projects in a variety of practices in the Wirral. Both roles involved clinical audit of GP case notes, writing reports and feeding back the results to multi-disciplinary primary care teams including GPs and practice staff.

In my gap year before university, I worked in a local GP surgery as a data input clerk. During this time, I received training in medical summarising and helped to summarise paper medical records and input them into the newly installed computer system. I also assisted the medical receptionists with the day to day tasks of a busy GP surgery.
