Sue Morrow is an advocate for visual journalists as a picture editor, designer, art director and former newsroom manager. She believes everyone has a story to tell, and that multimedia is the powerful medium to report those stories.She has worked as a leader at some of the best newspapers in the country: The Mercury News, Tampa Bay Times, The Sacramento Bee, Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The Boston Globe. As the assistant managing editor for photography at the Times, the photo staff was recognized with numerous awards for photography and editing in POYi, BOP and SND, winning Picture Editing Team Portfolio in POYi. Sue won Picture Editor of the Year in POYi in 1994.She earned an MA at Ohio University as the Knight Fellow, has lectured at Poynter, Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar and many NPPA related seminars and contests. Since 1994, she has been faculty and board member of The Kalish, the premiere visual storytelling workshop at Rochester Institute of Technology, and served as director 2011-2013 and 2021. She has been a judge for POYi, BOP, SND, the White House News Photographers Association, and Hearst Journalism Awards Program.In 2017-18 and 2019-20, Sue was a visiting professional in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio teaching journalism courses on the undergraduate and graduate levels. She edited and designed The Bee's 2007 Pulitzer Prize feature photography winning entry “A Mother’s Journey.” She edited The Bee’s 2013 Pulitzer Prize finalist in feature photography.In August 2018, Sue became the second woman editor and designer of News Photographer magazine, for the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA). After many years in California, she and her husband, Michael Rondou, made Athens, Ohio, their home in 2019, with their three gregarious cats. Her documentary “Born to Die” about the unique horse rescue Last Chance Corral in Athens, Ohio is in production. She also teaches a graduate-level leadership class in the School of Visual Communication at Ohio University.

I have been faculty and board member since 1994 and was director of the workshop for three years in 2011-2013 when we established scholarship funding for participants through various (generous) professional organizations.
