Our names are Sue Pepper and Janet Stacey. Up until 2012 we both worked as Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI), specialising in early years and children’s centres. While at Ofsted we focused on early year’s inspection, compliance and complaints against Ofsted. We took the decision to leave Ofsted in 2012 to focus on helping providers be ‘Ofsted ready’ and to help improve staff practice. We have continued to inspect as freelance inspectors so our skills and knowledge are up-to-date. In addition, we have both completed the Common Inspection Framework training and have conducted inspections under the current framework.We have now established a successful consultancy service working primarily with settings given grades below ‘good’, and those that want to retain their grade of ‘outstanding. We also offer a wide range of training for staff relating to early years practice, safeguarding and mock inspections. In addition, we also support settings to challenge their Ofsted judgements if they feel strongly that their judgement is unfounded.
