Established in 1994, our vision is of thriving regional economies where we meet more of our needs from local, renewable and waste resources, enabling people to live happy, healthy lives within the natural limits of the planet, leaving space for wildlife and wilderness.Bioregional was inspired to develop the One Planet Living framework through our involvement in creating BedZED, an ambitious eco-village in south London. It has now been used in over $30billion of real-estate development around the world. I’ve used this approach working with a wide range of communities, developers and companies, including writing the London 2012 Olympics strategy and shaping long-term partnerships with companies including UK home improvement retailer B&Q.I’m currently spearheading Bioregional’s efforts to develop more truly affordable, sustainable communities – we know from practical experience in developing the zero carbon communities of BedZED and One Brighton that sustainable homes don’t need to cost more, will sell faster and help create happier, healthier environments. I’m also a passionate advocate of the Sustainable Development Goals, which were agreed by world governments in September 2015. I led Bioregional’s efforts to lobby for their introduction, focusing in particular on ensuring that the critical issue of sustainable consumption and production (SCP) was properly recognised in the Goals. I continue to work hard to leverage the work of Bioregional to inform and improve government policies and industry best practice and to support the implementation of these policies.
