Achievements- Providing guidance, clarification and support to a range of agencies on safety at sports grounds.- I have used my experience to improve safety, there are numerous examples of where sharing good practice and top tips can really make a difference.- As a member of a team of inspectors, communication is a key aspect of our role. We work hard together to determine key guidance and act as the government’s advisor on sports grounds safety.Toughest challengeI am very focused on delivery and sometimes working in the world of football can lead to some challenging discussion with Chairman, Chief Executives and Directors about spending money on safety matters. I relish the challenge of convincing them of the importance of getting safety right.

Director of Sport and International DevelopmentAchievements- Promotion of the SGSA’s Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (Green Guide) internationally. - Promotion of other SGSA guidance documents and SGSA expertise internationally.- Developing relationships with sports other than football in the UK.- Set the strategic direction for international and sports work. - Map key stakeholders and develop stakeholder management plans for international bodies, federations and organising committees, such as FIFA and the IOC. - Developing internal and external communications strategy for international and sports activity, and ensure key stakeholders are kept informed of developments.- I am able to use my experience of nearly 20 years in safety at sports grounds to support developments around the world, what a great job!Toughest ChallengeI am enjoying the challenge of working with a range of different cultures, both from a sporting perspective and an international perspective. The tough bit is to spread the word that the Green Guide is an SGSA document - most people have not made the link.

Achievements:- Strategic leadership of over 200 staff and £3 million budget- Lead on co-ordination of savings reduction programme across Adult Social Care totalling £68 million over 4 years.- As a Service Head who had a key role working with and supporting the Senior Leadership team, I was able to challenge Corporate and Service Directors. I was regularly commended for my input to SLT in challenging times.- Responsible for Emergency Planning, Business Continuity, Health and Safety and Risk Management across Adult Social CareToughest challengeMy toughest challenge was co-ordinating £68 million of savings for Nottinghamshire County Council across Adult Social Care and managing staffing cuts of 30% across my staff group.

Achievements- Delivery and multi-agency planning, training and exercising for emergency planning in Nottinghamshire- Chair of Safety Advisory Group for Nottinghamshire and issuing Safety Certificates for Nottingham Forest Football Ground, Mansfield Town Football Ground and Trent Bridge Cricket Ground.- Undertook various major incident roles at times of flooding and other incidents in Nottinghamshire, including managing the Emergency Control Centre, managing a rest centre (evacuation centre) forward incident control officer, LA representative at Gold Control and other roles.Toughest challengeOne of the flooding incidents I attended. This one was in 2004, at 3.00am in the morning I arrived at a flooded village and was met with chaos and lots of very unhappy home owners. I was able to assess the situation, direct the Fire Service to pump out the most at risk properties and secured sandbags to support residents. The residents were so grateful for the support and the media loved the positive stories of that night.
