I am a freelance copywriter and interpretation consultant, based in Dumfries and Galloway, specialising in natural history, conservation, heritage and environmental subjects. I'm also currently working for NatureScot Peatland ACTION as a communications officer. I previously worked as the Scottish Wildlife Trust Living Landscapes communications and advocacy officer for Cumbernauld Living Landscape and Coigach & Assynt Living Landscape, and before that communications officer for Inner Forth Futures, the legacy project of the RSPB-led Inner Forth Landscape Initiative.I have an honours degree in English and European literature. I began my career in newspaper and magazine publishing, and for 12 years worked on local, national and commercial titles as a writer, journalist and production editor. I did voluntary work in my spare time to build up experience in conservation and the environment - where my real passion has always been.Before turning freelance in 1999 I worked for four years as Development Manager for Essex Wildlife Trust, and for two years as Head of Marketing for Wiltshire Wildlife Trust - two of the largest wildlife trusts in the country. When I became freelance I decided to focus on working with conservation and environmental organisations, because of my experience and also because of my personal interest in those fields. I have worked on interpretation projects with a wide range of conservation, environmental and heritage organisations, including NatureScot, Cadw, Whale and Dolphin Conservation, North Norfolk District Council, the Garden for Life Forum, Interpret Scotland, Cairngorms National Park, Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park, the National Trust, and Butterfly Conservation. Recent copywriting work has included writing copy for the Scottish Dolphin Centre, North Norfolk Deep History Coast Trail (https://bit.ly/3hedciU); the Gunpowder Trail in South Wales, and a built heritage trail around Bath.
