I started working for Greene King on their ‘Managers In Training’ programme. This consisted of learning all aspects of running a successful pub business, including Health & Safety, First Aid, Employment Law and National Certificate of Personal License Holders, among others. After 3 months of training, my husband and I undertook 6 months of relief management before getting our own pub in July 2005.We ran a successful business and in 2006 were promoted to Premier Managers as all our targets were being reached.We were then also promoted to Trainer Managers where we were responsible for training new managers to a level where they could run their own business.

I started working on telesales, providing a direct service to members of the public for all their insurance needs, ranging from the quotation stage to any policy adjustments, renewals and claims handling. I was then promoted to Deputy Section Leader and eventually Section Leader where I was responsible for a team of 23 staff. Duties consisted of the day to day running of the section, including accounts queries, general underwriting problems and dealing with any complaints. I was also responsible for all staffing issues, including recruitment, sickness, disciplinary and any personal issues.The above company were taken over and I was responsible for the transfer of the business and staff to the new company. This was a twelve month transition period at which time I was then transferred to Senior Underwriting Technician dealing with all aspects of private car renewals.
