Sue Foster Work Experience Details
  • Matic
    Co-Founder
    Matic Jan 2019 - Present
    Colorado, United States
I teamed up with a couple of talented friends to see if we could create some useful consumer software. Our first attempt is Packaroo, a packing list app for the iPhone that serves up recommendations for what to bring on your travels based on the destination. We're doing our best to make this app useful, usable, and sometimes shockingly clever.
  • Wishful Thinking
    Founder
    Wishful Thinking Apr 2010 - Jul 2019
We founded Wishful Thinking LLC to learn how to create and sell consumer-based products online. Through that effort we created Iron Doggy, a company that makes hands-free dog leashes that keep athletic dogs on the straight and narrow. Iron Doggy leashes were recommended by Fitness, Women’s Running, and Triathlete magazines. We sold thousands of leashes around the world, and had hundreds of five-star customer reviews. Almost ten years into it, we sold the business. Iron Doggy products are still in production and available online from its new owner.
  • Jeppesen, Commercial & Military Aviation
    Interaction Design Lead
    Jeppesen, Commercial & Military Aviation 2007 - 2016
In my time at Jeppesen I focused on touch-screen solutions for aeronautical charts used on the flight deck. The first project I worked on was a redesign of Jeppesen's Class 2 Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) System, and later I focused on charting solutions for the Jeppesen FliteDeck on the iPad. My primary focus was to lead design research across multiple markets, facilitate product designs based on this research, communicate the designs to internal stakeholders and work with the engineering teams to see that the designs were implemented.
  • Ge Energy
    Interaction Design Lead
    Ge Energy 2001 - 2007
Managed the interaction design efforts for two major and two minor product releases of GE’s outage and distribution management software application. Led a collaborative team in the development of persona-based domain models, design concept definitions, interaction frameworks, and detailed user interface specifications. Successfully integrated a user-centered design process with software architecture and engineering processes. This integration greatly increased the predictability of the final product scope and delivery dates, and reduced rework during implementation and testing.
  • Smallworld Systems, Inc.
    User Interface Architect
    Smallworld Systems, Inc. 1997 - 2001
Established the interaction framework for PowerOn, Smallworld's first vertical application targeted at the electrical utility market. Designed and implemented the user interface on three major releases and four minor releases of the product. Established a requirements triage process where product release scoping decisions could be managed across multiple releases of a product. Advocated a collaborative and user-centered approach to product design.
  • Digital Engineering Corporation
    Software Engineer
    Digital Engineering Corporation 1996 - 1997
Designed and developed A/VReports, a professional report writer extension for ESRI’s ArcView desktop GIS package. This tool was eventually purchased by ESRI becoming a key feature of the ArcView product.
  • Fairfax County Government
    Assistant Gis Manager
    Fairfax County Government 1991 - 1995
Managed the implementation of Fairfax County GIS “Quick Start” program, where desktop GIS was rolled out across 12 county agencies in fewer than 12 months. Managed the data conversion efforts of 15 large-area data sets, including a detailed single-line street network. Led a team in the construction of a GIS application development plan, where the functional needs of seventeen county agencies were described and prioritized. Led a team of application developers in the creation of functional demos of GIS technology in order to secure program funding and educate staff of application potential.
  • Fairfax County Government
    Project Manager
    Fairfax County Government 1988 - 1991
Managed system maintenance and data conversion efforts for an automated mapping and E911 Incident Map Display System. Collaborated on the design and development of ad-hoc application development projects in support of a variety of county agency mapping needs.
  • Fairfax County Government
    Cartographer
    Fairfax County Government 1986 - 1988
Managed annual map book and atlas production contracts, and bi-annual aerial photography contract. Performed map maintenance, zoning and title research.
  • Patton, Harris, Rust, & Associates
    Survey Assistant
    Patton, Harris, Rust, & Associates 1984 - 1985
