I have recently returned to the freelance life - allowing me the flexibility to work on a variety of projects encompassing writing, public relations, social media, content creation and marketing - and a better work-life balance.Having spent most of my career as a specialist feature writer and editor for newspapers and magazines, I took a different direction from June 2019 to September 2023, working at the City of Swan as tourism public relations officer. This role allowed me to channel my interests in food, local produce, tourism, and communications into raising the profile of the Swan Valley, WA's oldest wine region, just 25 minutes from the Perth CBD. This role encompassed communications planning, stakeholder relations, media liaison, event publicity, social media, media familiarisations, itinerary planning, budgeting, branded publications, campaign coordination, tourism marketing strategy and much more.I remain a passionate journalist, writer, and communicator who loves a chat and telling stories. I understand the importance of selectively pitching unique content, minus the spin.Although best known as an entertainment and food writer, my media experience covers news, real estate, travel writing, production editing, website content management, EDM creation, social media management, and photography and videography shoot planning.Throughout my career I have been a regular guest on radio including the former Spirit Radio Network and 6PR talking about television and food news. I’ve also been a facilitator at food-related sessions at Perth Festival’s Writers Week.My strengths include attention to detail, managing multiple deadlines, snappy headlines, finding new angles to known stories, and cutting through communications jargon. My previous stint on the other side of the media involved writing media releases and pitching story opps during two fun and busy tours of duty as a media officer with the Perth Royal Show.My passion for food underpins most things I do; it’s an interest you will continue to see reflected on my Instagram @sueyeap.
