Description: A primary cause of morbidity and mortality in HIV+ patients, tuberculosis (TB) is rarely diagnosed at an early stage. This project attempts rapid, simple test to accurately identify early TB and routinely monitor HIV+ patients with the disease. Role: Screened blood, sputum and urine samples to confirm TB diagnosis in HIV+ patients using smear and culture method. Used direct or indirect microscopy, microbiology and molecular based techniques such as isolation of DNA/RNA, PCR and Gel Electrophoresis with a range of genes .Performed SDS and ELISA with Short Term Culture Filtrate (STCF) protein, four purified recombinant proteins and their peptides per laboratory protocol to develop diagnostic abilities and antibody detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis .Completed all patient follow up throughout the project testing and analysis phases.

 Collaborated with doctors to collect necessary samples.  Updated patients’ infection statuses per lab results.  Performed microscopy and read bacteriological cultures. Processed a range of microbiology specimens. Performed routine microscopy and culture reading  Conducted both culture and sensitivity testing following established guidelines.  Maintained the monthly hospital microbiological report, distributing information to relevant stakeholders.  Performed routine record management to ensure up-to-date patient files.  Participated in the Infection Control Team alongside hospital colleagues.
