I am Dr. Sujay K Biswas, driven by passion for harnessing knowledge to create real-world solutions for pressing healthcare challenges. I hold a PhD from the School of Medical Science and Technology at IIT Kharagpur.Currently, I work as an innovator and consultant specializing in development and commercialization of innovative point-of-care diagnostic tests. My expertise lies in biomicrofluidics and bioengineering, with a particular focus on advancing point-of-care diagnostics.I have developed point-of-care diagnostic tests for various blood constituents (glucose and hemoglobin), by integrating smartphone technology with paper-based sensors using colorimetric detection techniques.Another work involves developing an isothermal nucleic acid testing (PINAT) platform for infectious disease detection (COVID-19 and influenza). This platform features an integrated sample-to-result device.Furthermore, I have developed a highly sensitive lateral flow assay (LFA) test, designed to detect and distinguish pathogenic infections at the early stages. My expertise extends to the design and assay specific customization of paper-strips and LFA assay strips. My research journey has resulted in publication of seven high-impact journal papers and seven patents, including three US patents (granted), three PCT patents and one Indian patent (granted). All these innovations are in process of commercialization via different industrial collaborators.Earlier, I gained 7.5 years of experience working at Tata Steel Ltd. I served as a Researcher in mathematical modeling. I worked on different pivotal projects towards process improvement and product development, resulted in an Indian patent (granted).This industrial experience provided me with invaluable insights that I seamlessly integrated into my doctoral research, especially in developing product prototypes for point-of-care diagnostic tests.I pursued my Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering at Jadavpur University and completed my Master's in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. My proficiency extends to handling diverse laboratory instruments and conducting experiments with bio-fluids and infectious agents. I have played a lead role in designing and developing a research lab, including BSL-II, a paper strip manufacturing pilot plant and LFA batch manufacturing unit.I have garnered recognition through several awards and accolades, including the Biotechnology Ignition Grants (BIG 20) in 2022, BIG23 in 2024 (PI) and the BIRAC Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (SITARE GYTI) Appreciation award in 2021.
