Duties and Responsibilities Work conscientiously and independently for the company while in China to ensure both the viability of the product and the profitability of the company. (As this was a senior post, the company expected me to conduct myself in a professional and ethical manner at all times, whether it be in China or elsewhere.) Source, evaluate and recommend new products and raw materials (with pricing as the main criterion).  Work closely with suppliers in China to ensure that:– products were of the highest quality before being shipped to Malaysia and– technical services and support were also of the highest quality. Monitor production of products to ensure that they met specifications and the delivery schedule. Undertake R & D with the goal of improving the company’s products.  Work closely with both the marketing and production teams to ensure cross-team cooperation with regards to technical support and services. Design and document quality control and quality assurance procedures and provide corresponding training. Help implement the in-line manufacturing quality process through corrective and preventive measures to improve both the efficiency and yield.  Handle all technical and quality-related enquiries, including customer complaints. Analyse product rejects.

Duties and Responsibilities Conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of electrical generation and distribution networks, electrical machinery, communications equipment, instrumentation and control systems.  Prepare material costs and timing estimates, and design specifications, for electrical and electronic systems and equipment.  Design and develop electronic ballasts for compact fluorescent lamps. Oversee CE mark, EMC and BIS certification. Review and select electronic component suppliers. Maintain and calibrate various instruments and systems for analysing colour and measuring light output. Maintain and update a library of test reports from OEM suppliers. Conduct post-sale analyses. Keep abreast of the latest relevant technological developments. Monitor and approve quality during the manufacturing process. Supervise and inspect the installation, modification, testing and operation of electronic systems and equipment. Develop maintenance and operating standards for electrical and electronic systems and equipment. Investigate electronic failures and implement solutions. Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders.  Supervise technicians, technologists, programmers, analysts and other engineers.This position required me to travel extensively throughout China, sourcing many components–including PCBs—for subsequent export to the manufacturing plant in Sri Lanka.

Duties and Activities After graduating from the Faculty of Engineering, I began work as an instructor at the University of Peradeniya, becoming heavily involved in CAD Technology for electrical devices and in software applications. Conducted research on internet computing and open-boundary problems under the supervision of Professor S. R. H. Hoole. Developed a course textbook for the faculty’s Programming Languages and Compilers course.
