Led the software design strategy and initial implementation of the Enterprise product for this early-stage startup:Developed a scalable product architecture based on open-source platforms for processing Social Media Conversations on a daily basis and monitoring trends (e.g. conversation volume, velocity or link growth) for effective campaign management.Pioneered the use of Data Warehousing and OLAP techniques to build a dimensional model for social media content, track day-over-day changes and produce near real-time alerts. Developed new algorithms for multi-modal information extraction for long-tail entities. Developed an ETL process for extracting semi-structured content from a topical search engine, transforming the content into relational form and building data cubes for OLAP, charts and reports.

Responsible for architecting, designing, managing implementation teams and delivering the core technology for the Callidus flagship product, TrueComp Manager (a 4-tier Java application). Provided leadership in the following areas:Java Application Framework: persistence layer, session management, caching, and deployment to multiple application servers. Data Architecture: schema design and evolution, stored procedures development, integration with EIS, data segmentation and archiving; support multiple database platforms (Oracle, DB2 UDB and SQL Server) and maintain portability.TrueComp Modeler: a new product for compensation modeling and time-series forecasting; starting from the marketing requirements, assembled an Engineering team and delivered the product in a space of nine months.

Responsible for the design, development, and customer validation of a new mid-tier adaptive enterprise data acceleration product (the core technology was subsequently acquired by Cisco Systems). Significant contributions included: Dynamic SQL transformation and query optimization: tasks included the research and development of state-of-the-art algorithms for query rewrite and optimization of dynamic SQL generated by enterprise applications.A hierarchical caching architecture for in-process and distributed caching of data objects: developed coherency protocols for both read-mostly and transactional data access patterns.

Responsible for architecting and leading the development of the database infrastructure for BroadVision One-To-One Enterprise Portal suite using Java technologies:Defined an Object Model and a set of APIs for the content management system, visitor profiler, targeting engine etc. and developed a set of new Web Services. Designed and developed a new Java-based, scalable, object-relational server architecture for the core recommender engine.

As a member of the Oracle Very Large Database (VLDB) group developed leading-edge techniques for extending Oracle database server's ability to manage complex Data Warehouse environments. Contributed to Oracle 8.0, 8.1 and 9.0 releases. Developed new methods for the efficient execution of queries involving structured (i.e. Object Types specified in Java or PL/SQL) and semi-structured (i.e. XML Type) data.Gained an understanding of the entire kernel stack (i.e. parser, optimizer, plan generator, parallelizer, query coordinator and the access layer) as the implementation required changes to the whole stack; completed the implementation by developing the kernel code for the parallelization of several new SQL extensions.Developed new PL/SQL packages (shipped as part of Oracle supplied packages) to support several developer/DBA tasks including parallel partition-wise index maintenance and index-based manipulation of large database objects (BLOBs and CLOBs) to improve performance.

Research and Development of Distributed Transaction Systems software for a variety of IBM products with full responsibility for the complete delivery cycle. Performed extensive systems programming in C and developed the function shipping and transaction routing components for the initial release of a new messaging product for the Unix platform. Worked closely with the Oxford Parallel Computing Center and developed new algorithms for efficient query processing of semi-structured data on the IBM-SP2 Parallel Computer. Internally published a technical report of this work that eventually formed the basis of the doctoral research at Oxford University.
