  • University Of Virginia
    Research Scientist
University Of Virginia Mar 2015 - Mar 2017
    Charlottesville, Va, Us
Obesity, Diabetes and Cancer Research.Following were the projects I worked in the Department of Pharmacology in the University of Virginia: 1) Determining the molecular regulation of fatty acid metabolism in the liver, 2) Determining how diet and obesity drive liver cancer initiation and progression, 3) Determining whether the metabolic pathway of lipogenesis can be therapeutically targeted to prevent or treat alcohol-induced liver cancer, and 4) Identification of small molecule drugs that increase mitochondrial metabolism for the treatment of obesity and metabolic disorders. I used a wide range of in-vivo and in-vitro models in these projects. These included knock-out mice models with tissue specific genetic knockouts, assays using primary hepatocytes, cancer and non-cancer cell lines and metabolic and immunoassays using serum and plasma. The techniques involved were metabolic assays using various radionucleotides, cellular oxidative capacity using SeaHorse XF analyzers, ELISA, Immunoblots, Immunohistochemistry, Real-time PCR, 2D and 3D cell cultures.
  • National Institutes Of Health
    Postdoctoral Researcher
National Institutes Of Health Mar 2010 - Feb 2015
    Bethesda, Md, Us
With my expertise in Lipid Biochemistry and Cell & Molecular Biology, at the NIH, I have studied the mechanism of non-vesicular lipid trafficking between intracellular organelles. I used the strength of yeast genetics using S. cerevisiae as the model organism and worked extensively on genetics, biochemistry, microscopy and cell biology.
  • Foundation For Advanced Education In The Sciences, Nih
    Lecturer
Foundation For Advanced Education In The Sciences, Nih Jan 2013 - Mar 2014
Undertaken teaching courses on “Lipid metabolism in Physiology and Disease” for the students in the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES) at the NIH in spring 2013 and 2014 (http://faes.org/course-catalog#n BIOC527). Responsibilities included designing syllabus, preparing course materials and delivering lectures for the students and scientists studying or working under the federal government.

    Rehovot, Hamerkaz, Il
Worked in the lab of Tony Futerman for 6 years in a tremendously energetic and enthusiastic group. Specialized in lipid and protein biochemistry and enzyme kinetics. Discovered the first mammalian synthase. For the first time performed detailed biochemical characterization of all six mammalian ceramide synthase. Discovered FTY720 to be a novel inhibitor of ceramide synthase and characterized the mode of inhibitory action. Developed biochemical assays for analyzing neutral lipid composition of mouse liver.
