My goal is to encourage and to create a learning environment that fosters critical thinking and problem solving. I believe higher education is about going beyond the information in the text book. All students, despite the color of their skin, their social and economic circumstances and criminal past should be engaged members of society. In order to accomplish this goal, they can’t be limited to only understanding the information that is printed in the text books but also need to challenge the content of the textbook. I am not satisfied with my students echoing the information that I have presented. My desire for my students is for them to demonstrate their understanding of the material. I see myself as a catalyst, to engage students to propel their curiosity to the next level.
