Howdens is a global insurance brokerage and re-insurance firm that have over 160 locations around the world.The role formed part of a Global IT Security team that is responsible for the continued cyber security and security operation support of the global on premise and on cloud infrastructure. DXI is a Data Centre/ISP that provides services such as hosting, security, server, voice and network solutions and management. Working 12 hour shifts based on four-days-on four-days-off working alternative night and day shift. My duties were to collect equipment from Parcel Force depots and install PC, laptops and printers at clients home. The procedure required me to set up Windows XP, install Panda Internet Security software and connect them to the Internet. I would also give a short demonstration on how to use the equipment.

The Lotus Group is one of the UK's largest travel agents with five sites across the UK, employing just over 500 users, and all IT services being controlled remotely from the head office in London. After completing my final year at University Lotus offered me a contract position, essentially a promotion from my previous role. In addition to my previous duties I was responsible for: Carrying out maintenance on all five sites. Providing mentoring to new university placement staff and organised their daily activities, including setting their priorities. Responsible for training new employees on the use of in-house corporate systems and basic skills on how to troubleshoot problems within the environment.

Whilst completing my final year at University I continued to work weekends for The Lotus Group. My duties from the industrial placement continued and also included performing extensive upgrade activities, as most services were not required to be available during the weekend in accordance with their SLA (These included server, network and PC patching and upgrades.
