About Suki Wan

As a Human Rights and Equalities Development Officer at THRE, I work to mainstream understanding of a human rights and equalities based approach across the Scottish Third Sector. I am passionate about facilitating youth engagement, participation, and empowerment on human rights issues, as evidenced by my previous roles as an Equality and Diversity Lead at the Scottish Youth Parliament and an Assistant Policy Officer at Together (Scottish Alliance for Children's Rights). I have contributed to research, writing, and publication of articles and work on children and young people's rights, and supported the delivery of youth-led campaigns and initiatives. I was formerly Chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament (2018-19) and I have been recognised for my work on children and young people's rights as a young leader and activist, including being named in YWCA's 2017 30 Under 30 list, and publishing an article in the International Journal of Human Rights, co-authored with another young activist, on our experiences and learning from being part of the children's rights community in Scotland.Additionally, I am the Chair of Refuweegee, a charity that welcomes forcibly displaced people to Glasgow, where I lead on the strategic direction and governance of the organisation. I am also a Trustee at Strange Field, an organisation that promotes accessibility of the creative arts and development of community-level arts initiatives.
