I am a faculty (Assistant Professor) at the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar since August, 2023. Before starting my current position at IIT Ropar, I worked as a Research Fellow at Hasso Plattner Institute, Berlin from 2022 to 2023 and at A*STAR, Singapore as a Research Scientist (2020 - 2022). I obtained my PhD in Computer Science from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore where my work (nominated for the outstanding PhD thesis award) focused on studying the functional architecture of the human brain. At NTU, I was the TA for the Neural Networks and Deep Learning course for UG and the Computational Biology course for PG students.Broadly, my research focuses on using computer science to study the functional and structural aspects of the brain. Specifically, I develop methods to study the brain in different states, viz. resting, during task performance and neuropsychiatric diseases. I obtained a B. Eng. in Computer Science from Punjab Engineering College (PEC), India where the institute awarded me with the Institute Color for research activities during my UG. I have worked with researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US), IASI-CNR, Rome (Italy), Carnegie Mellon University (US), Ben Gurion University of the Negev (Israel) and Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar (India).My research has been focused in the areas of machine learning, deep learning, complex network analysis and neuroimaging. Several years of experience in R&D has made me capable of formulating and implementing efficient solutions to problems. During my PhD, I worked on the identification of biomarkers for different neurological disorders and used them to obtain more efficient deep neural networks with better diagnostic accuracy. As a result of my efforts, we were able to reduce the size of the deep neural networks to less than 0.1% of the original in some cases, while achieving better classification performance. I have publications at top neuroimaging venues such as MICCAI, ISBI, NeuroImage: Clinical, Human Brain Mapping, and Nature.
