I’m a humanitarian first and foremost, and getting help to people in need matters more to me than anything else. I believe in this purpose and believe that any human who can help another should do so in any way they can. Every member of the family of staff and supporters that I’ve built up at Ethar Relief shares this core purpose. I established Ethar Relief in 2006 to help forgotten Eritrean refugees trapped in camps across East Africa and Yemen. In the years since then I’ve assumed the role of an active CEO, driving the organisation forward so that the only limits to what we can achieve are those we set ourselves. As a former refugee liberated from a camp in East Africa, I have a deep personal connection with refugees and displaced, needy people. Through Ethar Relief, the forgotten people have a voice and representation. Every year, more and more of my time is spent advocating and finding support for them. As CEO, I’m privileged to lead a growing organisation that has become one of the most important voices for disadvantaged people in the Horn of Africa.
