Language Instructor for Adult newcomers to Canada

*Act as a resource teacher to provide support in the implementation of PBLA for the LINC program at Caledon Community Services *Deliver workshops, provide students with an orientation to PBLA, facilitate small groups and informal discussions.

It helps in building self-awareness, self-esteem and effective communication strategies. Presented in an informative and interactive format, this process enhances the basic values of self- awareness, and awareness of interpersonal relationships at work and in life.

*Plan and execute a social media strategy for TESL Ontario*Manager of facebook page; responsible for increasing the page engagement multifold.*Manage and contribute to the TESL Ontario Facebook page. *Design and facilitate presentations and technology labs to increase the membership's knowledge of using facebook as a tool for student and member engagement.

I presented a lab session on the relevance of facebook in ESL and thereafter facilitated a hands-on workshop on the basic elements of facebook. I also shared my personal experience with using a facebook secret group for my students.

This role required me to teach tailored LINC classes one-to-one via an integrated Web and phone system using blended teaching methods. I taught weekly classes for students based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks and the LINC curriculum using screen sharing, Skype and Web resources. Following PBLA, I evaluated and assessed students' work and progression. In addition, I designed lesson and study plans for all of my students ranging from LINC 2 to 7. Each quarter, I completed detailed quarterly student progress reports drawn from carefully compiled student portfolios. This position challenged me to expand my understanding of digital teaching tools and to apply my knowledge and expertise in creative ways. Connecting with my students was a crucial to motivating them to continue their studies while juggling the competing demands of children, work and studies. Finally, the trust with minimal supervision, and the scheduling flexibility inherent in the job has increased my self-discipline, organization, interpersonal and communication skills exponentially.
