Future special educator specializing in birth through 3rd Grade and Special Education. I am a strong believer in community as family and family involvement in the classroom. Learning goals I work on with all my students are empathy, inclusion, and understanding. Coming from a multicultural background, I have experience working with English as a Second Language learners and diverse families.I believe that all children have an innate curiosity to explore the world around them, enabling them to learn from experience. While children may gain these skills and knowledge at different rates, all children's growth should be celebrated and acknowledged. I also value creating opportunities for learning within a child's natural environment. Rather than isolated trials and procedures, having a space that encourages cross-disciplinary skills and knowledge will lead to more meaningful learning for the child. Behavior management then becomes a very instrinsic motive. I do not think that children should be conditioned with external factors to follow certain rules or behave in certain ways. By teaching skills and the reasons why certain behaviors are appropriate and some are not, the children gain responsibility and accountability of self. With that intrinsic motivation and respectful understanding, children can then become leaders in their own learning as well.
