I discovered early in my career that I have a passion for psychiatry, and all things mental health related, including writing!I began my postgraduate training in psychiatry in 2010, and duly completed it in 2014 in University Malaya (UM). I subsequently served in Pahang and enjoyed the slow pace of the sleepy town of Temerloh for 2 years. I then served as a clinical psychiatrist in Hospital Ampang as well as a medical lecturer in University Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). This allowed me to merge my 2 interests seamlessly, psychiatry and education.In 2019, I emigrated to Australia and obtained my FRANZCP. My current role is as consultant psychiatrist in Brisbane, Queensland.I am a huge proponent of destigmatising psychiatric illnesses and educating the general public with a myriad of methods, including writing. As a society, we are witnessing an exponential rise in the number of people afflicted with depressive and anxiety disorders. Let’s remember, “No Health without Mental Health”.Some of the highlights of my career include:- Published case reports and articles in several psychiatric journals- Member of a team providing psychological first aid in disaster psychiatry in 2013 (aviation disaster MH370) and 2015 (widespread flooding in the east coast of Malaysia)- 10 mass media articles published providing information on mental health disorders- Invited speaker to more than 15 forums/seminars educating healthcare workers or the general public regarding mental health- Poster presentation at the Malaysian Congress of Psychological Medicine (2016)On a personal note, I am a Bollywood junkie and an avid foodie.
