I am excited to be in my first semester at Virginia Tech's Engineering Education PhD program. My research interests are currently broad, with plans to hone them during my first year in the program. I have work in three roles on campus for varying times:As an Engineering Ambassador from Aug 2021-present, I am a student ambassador that works with the College of Engineering's Outreach Coordinators. We visit K-12 schools around the Salt Lake Valley to talk about engineering and STEM. Additionally, we host events on campus and give tours, including the annual Engineering Day for high school students.As a tutor for the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering from Aug 2021-present, I work with civil students at our tutoring center. We offer help with Statics, Strengths of Materials, Structural Analysis, Geotechnical Engineering, and our Introduction to Civil class.As a Mentor Learning Assistant from Aug 2021-May 2022, I helped run the activities in the SCI 5050 Science of Learning class. This is the class that our undergraduate Learning Assistants take during their first semester of employment. Learning Assistants help large-enrollment classes in the College of Science as mentors and learning aides who hold office hours but do not participate in grading as a Teaching Assistant would.

Conducted research in the Anderson Acoustics Group in aide of two projects: classroom acoustics' contribution to teachers' vocal health, and the validity of NRUS techniques to detect damage in the Delicate Arch. Learned about basic acoustic mathematical conceptsWrote code in Matlab reflecting those concepts to determine specific parameters related to room acousticsConducted and recorded results for freeze-thaw tests on 1/110 scale concrete Delicate Arch modelsPresented the results in two 10-min presentations and one 40-min presentation throughout the summerDouble-checked understanding of concepts with mentor on a weekly basis.
