Successful, profitable companies recognize the importance of having effective internal controls as a foundational component in achieving accurate financial results. Putting these in place is not as much an issue for bigger companies as it is for smaller organizations, where limited resources make it more difficult to implement and manage a large number of internal controls. I recommend best practices, drawing from insights and experiences with other entities that have similar structures. I bring value to a client by sharing knowledge and solutions that have worked well for other clients; this knowledge can be aggregated, accessed and implemented. I apply my experience in industry to look at things from the client’s perspective and always keep in mind that the main goal is to provide the best client service I possibly can. My earlier experience in industry, where I was on the other side of the desk, allows me to “put myself in their shoes.” This enables me to understand their perspective more quickly but it also aids in my communication with them, especially when asking for information.
