Summer is an experienced leader with 15 years of work across nonprofit, private sector, and governmental roles. Summer worked primarily in the National Security and Civil Rights field helping to combat post 9/11 profiling, surveillance, and discrimination in the United States targeting low-income Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (AMEMSA) communities. She helped to identify broad patterns of abuse and systemic rights violations and educate and engage impacted communities in defending their rights. She has worked as an immigration and civil rights paralegal, community organizer, and policy advocate. As a staff person with Asian Law Caucus, she helped lead a broad coalition to pass landmark legislation protecting the community against racial and religious profiling abuses by local and federal law enforcement joint task forces. Summer pursued her MBA and worked in Silicon Valley managing new product introduction, marketing, legal compliance, and executive advisory work. She often transfers these skills towards her passion of serving as an organizational and program management consultant and trusted advisor to organizations and teams driving positive social impacts.Amidst the pandemic, Summer entered government service to help scale legal civil rights program compliance and provide technical assistance to over 70 county welfare departments providing social services to Californians to ensure nondiscrimination in the delivery of aid and benefits.Most recently, Summer worked on nonprofit efforts to supplement the State Bar of California’s work addressing ongoing diversity challenges in the demographic make-up of California’s attorney population. She was tasked with directing and redesigning the only workforce development program helping low-income women of color with the tools, curriculum, and resources needed to complete the Law Office Study Program and become licensed attorneys through a debt-free apprenticeship pathway. Her efforts helped the program achieve its first student passage milestone for the baby bar examination in 2024.
