Summer Vaughan, a New School graduate, has always focused on exploring her passions: film, science, and social justice. As early as she can remember, Summer's had a camera in one hand and her baby blanket in the other, trying to capture magical moments. After starting off her career as a PA, she quickly worked her way up to 1st AD and producer, before earning the opportunity to work as a writer and director. Summer’s haunting debut film, Josephine won an IndieFEST Film Award and gained her recognition for the mostly women-focused narratives driving her creative vision. Summer’s body of work has explored a variety of genres, including psychological thrillers, dark comedy, and drama. Her extensive filmography, written about in publications like Twang Nation, has been described as David Lynch-inspired with a modern flare. She has a keen eye for detail and an adept affinity for capturing the distilled essence of the complex human psyche on screen. She specifically enjoys shooting on 35mm and has partnered with Kodak for projects like Letter Eight, starring Carson Higgins (Babylon). Above all else, however, Summer is a deeply-passionate artist whose core beliefs center on running a set with kindness and dedication. Her time on set has inspired her commitment to rewriting the production formula from the ground up, with more holistic practices in mind, searching for the balance between extending basic human dignity to those working on set without compromising the integrity of the production.
